Metropolitan Food Cluster

Project Overview

The core concept of the Aqua Soil Approach has been developed out of experience to address South Africa’s problems with waste water and organic waste streams combined with the challenge of higher and safer food production. This pre-feasibility study was conducted to present an insight into the market opportunities for the Aqua Soil Approach (higher agricultural yields and lower water footprint), combining the knowledge of Aqua-Terra Nova, Living Lands, and  Soil & More International on organic waste (water)management and carbon-related mechanisms. All this should contribute to the realisation of the establishment of a Metropolitan Food Cluster in South Africa. This pre-feasibility study contained the assessment of seven different sites, the two most promising of which were further explored.  Living Lands was one of the project partners together with Aqua-Terra Nova (project manager), Soil & More International, and For Elements.  The project was funded by the Royal Dutch Embassy.
